Making of the movie
The atoms were moved with an IBM-invented scanning tunneling microscope, remotely operated by researchers to control a sharp needle along a copper surface to “feel” the atoms. Only 1 nanometer away from the surface, the needle can physically attract atoms and pul
l them to a specified location. Andreas Heinrich, principle investigator at IBM Research, said:
The short film, 'A Boy and His Atom', was made using thousands of these precisely placed tiny molecules.
‘A Boy and His Atom’ This is the name of the world shortest movie made by the scientists from IBM, a Guinness World Record. The film was made using thousands of precisely placed atoms. It consist of almost 250 frames of stop-motion action.
And the story of the movie goes like this......
->Atom befriends a single atom and they goes on a journey.
-> There were lot of difficulties in their journey.
-> They had to dance, they were playing catch, and the deadliest part, they were bouncing on a trampoline.
And there story ends here.....
Funny Nahhh!!!!
But not that easy to made
But not that easy to made
Making of the movie

Capturing, positioning and shaping atoms to create an original motion picture on the atomic-level is a precise science and entirely novel. At IBM, researchers don’t just read about science, we do it. This movie is a fun way to share the atomic-scale world while opening up a dialogue with students and others on the new frontiers of math and science.
